Thirteen studies by representatives of Austrian and Slovak historiography, literary studies, ethnology, musicology, theater studies, and art history examine the multilayered formation of collective identities ...in the Central European region. The historical memory of societies in this region was not shaped by a homogeneous national tradition, but rather by ethnic and cultural plurality and heterogeneity. Through examples from literature, music, theater, architecture, public urban space, funerary culture, and philanthropy, the authors present rituals that reinforce identity, “reservoirs” of collective memory, and the media of identification politics. Trinásť štúdií predstaviteľov rakúskej a slovenskej historiografie, literárnej vedy, etnológie, muzikológie, teatrológie a dejín o umení sa zaoberá mnohovrstvovým utváraním kolektívnych identít v stredoeurópskom regióne. Historickú pamäť spoločností v tomto regióne neformovala homogénna národná tradícia, ale etnicko-kultúrna pluralita a heterogenita. Na príkladoch literatúry, hudby, divadla, architektúry, verejného urbánneho priestoru, pohrebného kultu a dobročinnosti autori predstavujú rituály upevňujúce identitu, „zásobárne“ kolektívnej pamäti a médiá identifikačnej politiky.
